A Sunday School Teacher Gets Arrested for Driving Under the Influence, Gets Inspired and Motivated To Get Alcohol Rehab for Her Excessive and Abusive Drinking, and Enhances Her Positive Attitude About Herself

For the past eighteen years Jenny has been a licensed practical nurse at a small private hospital. Moreover, she has also been teaching Sunday school at the local Anglican Church. Although she lived in a small country town where it appeared like every person knew everyone’s business, relatively little was known about Jenny. To be sure almost every person in town knew that she had worked more than a few years as a registered nurse and that she taught Sunday school for as long as she lived in their small town. Other than that, nonetheless, it almost appeared as if Jenny was merely a visitor in their town.

You can imagine the hoopla that happened when it was discovered that one Sunday morning Jenny had lost consciousness because of inebriation. In truth, the article in the neighborhood daily paper stated that Jenny not only became unconscious, but that she also received a DUI because her blood alcohol level was one-and-a-half times the legal limit for drunk driving. This is evidently one of the alcohol effects on the body that no Sunday school teacher wants to have made known to the whole community. But this is specifically what happened, much to the regret of Jenny.

Jenny Gets Very Unhappy About Her Drunk Driving Arrest

It almost goes without saying that Jenny was extremely troubled about her arrest for driving while intoxicated. Not only should she have known better about drinking and driving because of her nursing job, but she also should have conducted herself according to a higher standard because of the basic fact that she taught Sunday school.

After her drunk driving arrest, Jenny thought about moving out of town so that she would not have to feel displeased about her arrest and also so she wouldn’t have to explain her actions for the millionth time to the people in town. After speaking with her pastor, then again, she decided that she would get alcohol rehab at a local rehabilitation center. She did this for two fundamental reasons. First, it was convenient for her to drive to a local treatment center. And second, she honesty wanted the word to get out among all the people in the community that she was sincerely dealing with her hazardous drinking.

Jenny Goes Through Alcohol Detoxification and Gets a Complete Exam

After Jenny went through alcohol detoxification, she got completely examined by a physician at the drug and alcohol rehab hospital. She then underwent various laboratory tests where it was validated that she was not dependent on alcohol but rather was engaging in abusive and excessive drinking. In a word Jenny was engaging in long term alcohol abuse.

Jenny was provided with the option of getting alcohol rehabilitation as a residential patient or getting registered as an outpatient. Jenny, then again, thought that she could still work as a nurse and go on with her Sunday school teaching job if she were to be registered as an out-patient and this is exactly what she did.

According to her rehabilitation protocol, Jenny went to three counseling sessions every three weeks, she learned more than she ever wanted to know about alcohol info, she worked on her out-of-class “duties,” and she found out how to involve herself doing things in life that did not involve alcohol.

After nine weeks, Jenny determined that her careless and excessive drinking was under control and so she got discharged from the rehab hospital under the specification that she would return for follow up therapy once every three months for the next twelve months. Jenny signed an agreement form and followed through on her “pledge.”

Jenny Comes to a Decision to Stay Away From Any and All Drinking Situations and Discovers That Her Self Confidence Becomes More Pronounced

After she finished her therapy Jenny reasoned that she would be able to drink in moderation. After thinking about things for a while, then again, she concluded that she would totally stay away from any and all drinking situations.

When Jenny made this decision, she learned that her self-respect grew the better she managed her life. And as her self-worth grew, it appeared that she became more gregarious and began attending more community activities such as Christmas tree lighting ceremonies, flower festivals, carnivals, music festivals, rib roasts, strawberry festivals, and local high school basketball and football games.

Jenny Faces Her Abusive and Irresponsible Drinking, Makes up Her Mind To Do Something Positive About It, and Rediscovers Her Faith

As the months went by, the individuals in the town manifested more care for Jenny because she was intermingling with them more frequently and also because she faced her drinking problem and decided to do something affirmative about it. It may have been her imagination, but it also appeared that her Sunday school pupils demonstrated more respect and affection for her.

Jenny is a living illustration of a person who faced a major problem and who did something positive about it. She is also someone who discovered that her religious faith is not only something that is intrinsic, but that it is also something that affects the way in which a person interacts with other individuals.
