A Great Way to Begin with your Leadership

Leadership: GLOBAL ISSUE FOR THIS CENTURY.

In the first place, Why would you like to be a leader?

The answer is not really easy, but it is not difficult either. In fact, the world countries are much more interconnected than several decades ago, and the trends show that the world will be even more interconnected in the next five decades.

What does it mean? In simple terms: team work, collaborative work and collaborative initiatives will be every day activities, and certainly not only restricted to your work but to your life too. So huge are the consequences that leaders are going to be asked for to give support to those teams reach their goals.

Chances are you’re going to be in several teams at the same time, and with different asignments on each of the workgroups.

Great Leadership

Won’t you agree that Winston Churchill,John F. Kennedy,Elizabeth the First have something in common?

Piece of cake:They were oustanding leaders.

Through centuries we’ve been delighted to look at the lives of outstanding leaders to be over their peers and move empires towards big achievements, to stand out over difficult times.

Amazing leaders have 2 qualities in common, citing Warren Bennis in the book “Learning to Lead”:

  1. A leader knows that leaders are made and not born.
  2. A leader keeps growing and learning every single day.

In Bennis’ book, you can find a couple of steps to be a leader:

  1. Get the people you want to lead, to “buy” your vision (or shared objectives).
  2. Generate and Sustain Trust.

Please read “the formula” once more and try to check if any of the world renowned leaders previously mentioned pass the test. I’m sure you’ll see that all of them totally pass the test. Let’s see again the couple of steps of this recipe and review how can we become great leaders.

Spreading The Vision

This is as essential as water and sun for living to happen. If you can’t deliver your vision, certainly you are not leading. Leading is finding the way towards that common destination. Your Job is to make that vision as a [desirable] place for all of your followers. The vision has to be set in the followers heads and hearts.

Generating Trust

  • Be competent, show you know what you’re doing.
  • Be congruent, do what you say and say what you do. Don’t let your actions speak something different from your words.
  • Be supportive, stay on the side of your team.
  • Be empathic, take care of your people.

It seems too easy but the formula to be a good leadership expert is not. Leadership has to do with your competences to lead, and that set of skills is one you need to develop.

Stay Alert Leadership IS A WORLDWIDE ISSUE FOR THIS CENTURY.
